Proposal to Introduce 'Minimum Wage for Robots' for AI Companies

Tech entrepreneur Charles Radclyffe warned that politicians are not sufficiently prepared for AI's impact on the workplace, and proposed a 'minimum wage for robots' system that would impose costs on companies when they adopt AI.

He pointed out that as AI performs office automation and administrative tasks far faster and cheaper than humans, jobs in the economy are shifting to data centers. For example, a data entry task that would take a human 2 weeks can be completed by AI in just 20 seconds.

Radclyffe argued that by taxing AI usage, the pace of companies' rapid AI adoption could be regulated, and the government would have a means to intervene if employment shocks arise from technology adoption. In response, the UK government stated that it would monitor the impact of AI and respond quickly to economic changes.
