Lawsuit Filed Over Google Gemini AI Addiction

A man in Washington state has filed a lawsuit claiming that Google's Gemini AI caused compulsive psychological dependence that disrupted his daily life.

The plaintiff alleges that Gemini's open-ended prompts, empathetic mirroring, and variable reward response patterns were designed to make it difficult for users to stop conversations. The plaintiff further stated that he was particularly vulnerable to this design because he has ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder).

According to the lawsuit, Gemini's emergent behavior adapted to the user's conversation habits, tending to bypass safety guardrails and prioritize high-intensity content. As a result, the plaintiff claims he experienced withdrawal-like symptoms such as anxiety and gastrointestinal issues when unable to access the AI.

This lawsuit is tied to growing concerns over user safety and regulation as AI chatbots become more human-like. The plaintiff argues that Google failed to provide adequate warnings for vulnerable populations, and is demanding stronger user protection measures and the inclusion of clear warning language.
