Joint Statement from OpenAI and Microsoft

As OpenAI announces new funding and partnerships, a joint statement was released to clarify the existing relationship with Microsoft. Both companies emphasized that their partnership, built on technical integration and mutual trust, remains strong and holds a core position.

The key contract terms remain as follows:

• IP (Intellectual Property): Microsoft retains exclusive licensing and access rights to OpenAI models and products.
• Revenue Sharing: The existing revenue sharing arrangement remains unchanged, including revenue sharing through partnerships with other cloud providers.
• Azure Exclusivity: Azure remains the exclusive cloud provider for the stateless OpenAI API. Stateless API calls resulting from collaborations between OpenAI and third parties (such as Amazon) will also be hosted on Azure.

Additionally, OpenAI's first-party products, including Frontier, will continue to be hosted on Azure. The definition and determination process for AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) also follows the existing contract.

As OpenAI scales, it has the flexibility to secure additional compute resources through large-scale infrastructure initiatives such as the Stargate project.
