Stargate Project Expands to Michigan

As part of its 4.5GW partnership with Oracle, OpenAI is building a new Stargate campus in Saline Township, Michigan. This project will bring Stargate's total planned capacity to over 8GW, with more than $450 billion in investment planned over the next three years. This moves up the timeline for the $500 billion, 10GW goal announced last January.

The Michigan campus will be developed by Related Digital, with construction set to begin in early 2026, and is expected to create more than 2,500 union construction jobs. Key features include:

• A closed-loop cooling system that significantly reduces water consumption.
• Utilizing DTE Energy's existing surplus transmission capacity to minimize impact on local energy supply.
• Infrastructure upgrade costs needed for operations will be fully covered by the project, not local ratepayers.

This expansion follows Texas, New Mexico, Wisconsin, and Ohio, and is part of a strategic infrastructure build-out to strengthen the AI supply chain across the US and support next-generation AI.
