Codex reaches General Availability

OpenAI has launched its coding agent Codex into General Availability (GA). Since its research preview, Codex has continued to evolve, and it now serves as a powerful coding partner that developers can collaborate with anywhere—in their editor, terminal, or the cloud.

Along with this launch, three key features have been added to boost engineering team productivity.

• Slack integration: You can delegate tasks or ask questions directly to Codex in team channels or threads, just as you would with a colleague. Once a task is complete, you can merge the changes in the cloud or pull them locally to continue working.
• Codex SDK: You can integrate agents built on GPT-5-Codex directly into your own workflows or apps. It currently supports TypeScript and provides structured outputs and context management features.
• Admin tools: Environment controls, monitoring, and analytics dashboards help ChatGPT workspace admins manage Codex at scale and apply security policies.

Codex has already been adopted by a range of companies, including Duolingo, Cisco, and Rakuten. Within OpenAI itself, engineers have seen a 70% increase in the speed of merging Pull Requests (PRs), with Codex automatically reviewing nearly every PR to catch issues before they reach production.
