OpenAI recruits retired US Army General Paul M. Nakasone to its board

OpenAI has recruited cybersecurity expert Paul M. Nakasone, a retired US Army general, as a board member. This appointment reflects OpenAI's commitment to safety and security at a time when the growing influence of AI technology is increasing the importance of security.

General Nakasone will join the board's Safety and Security Committee. This committee is responsible for providing recommendations to the board on key safety and security decisions regarding all of OpenAI's projects and operations.

OpenAI is focused on strengthening security across its systems, including protecting AI model weights and customer data, and securing the supercomputers used for large-scale AI training. The company also plans to explore ways to use AI to rapidly detect and respond to cyberattacks, thereby enhancing defenses in security-vulnerable sectors such as hospitals, schools, and financial institutions.

General Nakasone contributed to the founding of U.S. Cyber Command and led the NSA (National Security Agency), making him one of the foremost experts in global cyber defense and technological advancement.
