Devsisters Engineering Day - Looking Back at Data

At the 2nd Devsisters Engineering Day - Data, held on May 29, 2025, the data organization shared the real problems it faces and how it solves them, and also released an online replay video.

The theme of the event was data. Devsisters games are served to users in over 240 countries, with a cumulative total of over 200 million users, and with more than 10 TB of data collected every day, the core challenge introduced was how to manage this reliably and use it for planning and live service decision-making.

Presentation 1 covered the design of a schema-based log pipeline introduced to handle the flexibility and complexity of JSON logs, and how it supports multiple schema versions simultaneously. The focus was on an approach that maintains consistency in log structure while preserving a stable analytics environment.

Presentation 2 was a story about building a near-real-time data pipeline. It explained how the accuracy and stability issues of the existing system were solved in order to quickly provide metrics at critical moments such as game launches, and also covered ways of working that reflect both team and customer needs to build practical data services.

Presentation 3 covered the journey of game data unification, an attempt to manage data from multiple games in a single integrated DW. It summarized the various difficulties encountered when an ideal plan met an unpredictable real-world data environment, the process of solving those problems, and the challenges that remain ahead.

Presentation 4 introduced how data has been utilized in Cookie Run: Kingdom. Through various cases such as data-driven game design decisions, update performance reporting, and live issue response, it shared reflections on what it means for a game team to make good use of data.

After the presentations, a panel talk lasting about 40 minutes followed, covering practical questions such as the reasons for choosing the current DW product, handling legacy data, compliance issues like GDPR, and the use of LLM with DW. A recruitment consultation booth was also set up at one side of the venue, offering consultations on the work style, roles, and organizational culture of the data function.

Despite rainy weather with passing showers, many attendees came to the venue, and after the event, positive feedback continued regarding both the presentations and the panel talk overall. Devsisters stated that, based on this experience, it will prepare an even more substantial next Engineering Day.
