xAI Raises $20 Billion in Series E Funding

xAI has completed a Series E funding round totaling $20 billion, surpassing its original target of $15 billion. The round included participation from Valor Equity Partners, Stepstone Group, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Qatar Investment Authority, MGX, Baron Capital Group, and others, with NVIDIA and Cisco Investments joining as strategic investors.

The company said this funding will accelerate the expansion of its compute infrastructure and the buildout of large-scale GPU clusters. In particular, building on Colossus I and Colossus II, among the world's largest AI supercomputers, xAI plans to continue rapid scale-up.

xAI defined 2025 as a breakthrough year and listed its key achievements.

• Data Centers: Secured over 1 million H100 GPU equivalents by year-end, extending its compute advantage
• Grok 4 Series: Developed next-generation language models on Colossus-based training infrastructure, and advanced reinforcement learning training leveraging pretraining-scale compute
• Grok Voice: Provides real-time voice conversation, agent API, multilingual low-latency voice, tool calling, and real-time data access, serving millions of users through the Grok mobile app and Tesla vehicles
• User metrics: Reached approximately 600 million monthly active users across 𝕏 and the Grok app
• Grok Imagine: Offers a high-speed multimodal model for image and video generation
• Grok on 𝕏: Highlighted Grok features designed to understand the world based on real-time information from the 𝕏 platform

Looking ahead, Grok 5 is already in the training stage, and xAI is focused on launching new consumer and enterprise products that combine Grok, Colossus, and 𝕏. The company explained that this investment will further accelerate the rapid deployment of AI products reaching billions of people worldwide, as well as research toward its core mission of Understanding the Universe.
