Anthropic Opens Fourth Asia-Pacific Hub in Sydney

Anthropic will open a Sydney office within the next few weeks, securing its fourth office in Asia-Pacific. Its existing hubs are Tokyo, Bengaluru, and Seoul, and this expansion is a move to respond to strong enterprise demand from Australia and New Zealand.

While building out a local team, the company is also expanding collaboration with Australian institutions. Executives plan to visit Australia in late March to formalize some partnerships and meet with customers and policy officials.

The key focus is supporting enterprise, startup, and research customers. Anthropic says it is already collaborating with companies such as Canva, Quantium, and Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and is also supporting startups across fields such as AgTech, physical AI, and climate tech.

Australia and New Zealand rank 4th and 8th, respectively, in Claude.ai usage per capita, with particularly notable use in computer and coding tasks, education, and research. Based on this demand, Anthropic is looking to further grow its local team and partnerships, and is also exploring the possibility of expanding compute capacity within Australia. Given the many requests from enterprises and government agencies with data residency requirements, the company is also considering securing local capacity using existing infrastructure as well as building long-term infrastructure.
