Google Launches Sheets Canvas for Gemini Mini Apps

Google has launched Sheets canvas. This feature uses Gemini to transform spreadsheet data into customized interactive 'mini apps.' It provides a read-write layer directly on top of the spreadsheet, allowing users to visually organize, edit, and explore data without programming or complex formulas.

Users simply describe the desired output in natural language in the Ask Gemini side panel. Gemini generates a layout based on existing data, and users can modify the design or functionality through additional prompts. All edits made in the canvas are synced in real time with the underlying spreadsheet.

Key use cases include:

• Students: Converting assignment lists into visual learning trackers
• Fantasy football users: Building roster command centers to compare player stats and rankings
• Wedding planners: Converting and managing RSVP records into seating charts

Currently, Sheets canvas is available in English for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, and is being rolled out sequentially to Workspace customers, including Business and Enterprise Standard/Plus. Users can access the feature directly via the Ask Gemini side panel within existing Google Sheets spreadsheets.
