A knowledge tracing AI paper co-researched by Upstage with i-Scream Edu was accepted at The Web Conference 2022, one of the world's most prestigious academic conferences. This marks the first time a domestic Korean AI startup has published a knowledge tracing paper using contrastive learning at this conference.

This research advances Knowledge Tracing, which tracks a student's current understanding and areas for improvement based on their learning records. In particular, the team explained that by introducing the deep learning technique contrastive learning to knowledge tracing for the first time, they achieved more effective results than existing one-directional approaches.

Competition for the conference was very high. This year, 1,822 papers were submitted and only 323 papers were accepted, resulting in an acceptance rate of about 17%, and this marks Upstage's first paper acceptance achievement.

The research outcomes are already moving into a validation stage.

• It is being applied to the i-Scream Homerun Math service, where it is being validated for predicting correct/incorrect answers and tracking weak points.
• There are plans to expand its application to subjects beyond math within this year.

The paper will be published in the research track of the online conference hosted by the University of Lyon, France, from April 25 to 29. Based on this achievement, Upstage stated that it will launch AI Pack in the first half of the year, providing the latest AI technologies such as OCR, high-performance natural language search, and recommendations by industry.
