Math-specialized LLM

Upstage and Qanda are the first in the domestic industry to launch development of a math-domain-specialized Private LLM that can even solve math problems. The two companies agreed to advance a specialized language model called MathGPT (tentative name) that reduces hallucination while providing problem-solving and explanations.

This collaboration is an extension of the joint development pursued after securing strategic investment from KT in September this year. Upstage will handle the model's engine and fine-tuning, while Qanda will provide math-specialized data for training the model.

Based on its technology that ranked No. 1 on the Hugging Face Open LLM Leaderboard, Upstage plans to train the model on large-scale, high-quality data so that the LLM can understand complex math formulas and concepts. Through this, the company aims to once again present a global No. 1 LLM that surpasses GPT-3.5.

Through this collaboration, Upstage is also formally entering the private LLM space in the education sector. The approach of training only on internal data to reduce hallucination is especially competitive in the education industry, where accuracy of answers is critical.

Going forward, Upstage plans to further expand its private LLM offerings based on its own language model, SOLAR. The company has also been accelerating LLM commercialization, recently signing agreements with Connectwave, Lotte Shopping, and Metaverse Entertainment.
