OpenAI Releases Admin Plugin for ChatGPT Work and Codex

OpenAI has released an Admin plugin for ChatGPT Work and Codex. This plugin enables workspace activity analysis, access and usage management, and approved admin tasks to be handled within a single conversation. Users can ask questions, drill down into details, apply changes, and verify results without writing complex prompts or switching tools.

Administrators can perform routine tasks through the plugin.

• Onboarding and Usage Understanding: Review activity and credit usage for ChatGPT Work and Codex to determine if limits are being approached.
• Member and Group Management: Add/remove members, update groups, and handle onboarding and offboarding.
• Access and Permission Management: Review effective permissions, diagnose access issues, and control feature/model access by role or group.
• Usage Limit and Spend Request Management: Adjust limits, review requests, and approve/deny them.

It also supports automating repetitive admin workflows. Pending usage requests can be routed to Slack or Microsoft Teams for approvers to handle, or access can be automatically granted for feature access requests that meet predefined criteria. All actions are performed within existing permission structures, and the results of changes are returned in a structured format.

The OpenAI IT team uses this plugin to streamline administrative tasks such as data drill-downs, report generation, permission checks, group updates, and usage limit changes.
