More US School Districts Adopt ChatGPT for Teachers

OpenAI has signed new partnerships with 55 school districts across 20 US states, expanding ChatGPT for Teachers to over 100,000 educators and staff. With this expansion, OpenAI will collaborate with approximately 100 K-12 institutions across 30 states, providing free access and training to more than 300,000 educators in total.

Alongside this, the company announced the industry’s first National Data Privacy Agreement covering 16 states. Based on the Student Data Privacy Consortium framework, this agreement allows school districts to evaluate ChatGPT’s student data privacy requirements through standardized procedures without individual negotiations. The agreement currently includes 16 states such as Illinois, Texas, and New York, while California is covered by a separate agreement.

ChatGPT for Teachers is a tool equipped with educational privacy, security, and administrative controls, where data within the workspace is not used for model training by default. Additionally, school and district leaders can manage educators through role-based controls that support FERPA requirements. Beyond simply providing tools, OpenAI is supporting responsible AI adoption in educational settings through a shared implementation model that facilitates practical training and peer learning.
