China Expands Overseas Travel Restrictions on Core AI Talent at Private Companies

China has begun restricting overseas travel for core AI talent at private companies. Those subject to the restriction must obtain approval from relevant authorities before traveling abroad.

Those covered by the restriction include startup founders, researchers, and executives. China has previously restricted overseas travel for key personnel such as major researchers, nuclear scientists, and executives at state-owned enterprises, but this measure is unusual in that it extends the scope to private companies.
