NVIDIA Acquires Hugging Face for $12.9303 Billion

NVIDIA has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.9303 billion. Through this acquisition, NVIDIA plans to strengthen the infrastructure of the Hugging Face platform and expand AI accessibility for developers and institutions worldwide.

Over the past decade, Hugging Face has grown into the center of an open model community used by more than 18 million developers and over 200,000 companies. Currently, it hosts more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications.

Commitment to Maintaining an Open Ecosystem

NVIDIA explicitly stated that Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the entire AI ecosystem even after the acquisition. Developers are free to choose their preferred models, frameworks, clouds, and computing platforms, with no mandate to use NVIDIA hardware. Multi-cloud and multi-accelerator development environments will continue to be supported.

The Importance of Open-Weight Models

NVIDIA emphasized that open-weight models are a key factor in decentralizing AI leadership and fostering innovation among startups, universities, and public institutions. As the largest contributor to Hugging Face, having contributed more than 500 open models and 250 open datasets, NVIDIA plans to continue its contributions to the open-source ecosystem.
