Beyond Code, Now to the PC

Codex has expanded beyond development workflows into general computer use.

• With background computer use, it directly sees, clicks, and types within apps on macOS.
• Multiple agents can run simultaneously on the same Mac without interfering with each other.
• An in-app browser is now built into the app, allowing direct comments on web pages so you can quickly iterate on frontend and game work.
• With gpt-image-1.5, it generates images and refines product concepts, mockups, and UI alongside screenshots and code.
• Over 90 plugins have been added, enabling deeper connections with JIRA, CircleCI, GitLab Issues, Microsoft Suite, Neon, Render, Notion, Slack, Gmail, and more.

Developer-focused features have also been strengthened. GitHub review comments handling, multiple terminal tabs, connecting to remote devboxes via SSH, rich previews for PDFs, spreadsheets, slides, and documents, and a summary pane for viewing the agent's plan, sources, and outputs have all been added.

Long-running task capabilities have also grown. New features include automations that reuse existing conversation threads, the ability to schedule tasks for a future time to automatically continue them, and a memory preview that remembers preferences and corrections learned from past experience. Building on this, Codex can combine Slack, Gmail, Notion, and codebases to proactively suggest morning tasks or priority to-dos.
