NVIDIA Acquires Hugging Face for $12.9 Billion to Expand Open AI Ecosystem

NVIDIA has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.9303 billion. Through this acquisition, NVIDIA plans to expand the Hugging Face platform and strengthen its infrastructure to broaden AI access for developers and organizations worldwide.

Hugging Face is a core platform in the AI ecosystem, used by over 18 million developers and more than 200,000 enterprise customers. Currently, over 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications are shared on the platform. NVIDIA will preserve this open ecosystem and support developers in freely choosing models, frameworks, cloud providers, inference service providers, and more.

Strengthening Support for Open-Weight Models

NVIDIA is the largest contributor to Hugging Face, having contributed over 500 models and 250 open datasets. After the acquisition, Hugging Face will continue to support open-source and open-weight models from all model builders, ensuring development and deployment in multi-cloud and multi-accelerator environments. NVIDIA computing is not a mandatory requirement, and freedom of hardware choice is maintained.

NVIDIA's infrastructure and global network will be utilized to improve the platform's reliability, safety, model evaluation, inference, and deployment capabilities. Hugging Face co-founder Clem accepted the offer, judging NVIDIA to be the right partner for the company, the community, and the future of open models. Both companies share the common goal of making AI more open, capable, and accessible.
