AI21 Studio Use Cases

AI21 Studio and Jurassic-1 demonstrate the range of applications for general-purpose text-in, text-out models, handling summarization, simplification, creative writing, code generation, table processing, classification, and question answering. All examples are based on human-crafted prompts and can be tried immediately using AI21 Studio's preset.

Prompt engineering alone can quickly produce demos or prototypes, and the authors say these examples took up to a day to create. However, to grow into an actual service, a custom model is more suitable. They explain that it can be trained with as few as 50 to 100 examples, offering better accuracy, latency, and cost efficiency.

The key use cases are as follows.

• Summarization/Simplification: Condensing online reviews into short phrases, converting business jargon into plain language, and explaining word meanings in context.
• Ideation/Copywriting: Generating blog ideas on AI and tourism topics, humorous headlines, and product descriptions.
• Code Generation: Converting English descriptions into a single line of Python code, or porting Python functions to JavaScript.
• Table Processing: Extracting information from tables and converting natural language into formatted tables.
• Classification: Performing news topic classification and binary classification such as High/Low.

Thanks to training on vast amounts of text, it can also handle sports trivia and common-sense reasoning, but the accuracy of its knowledge varies by time, topic, and region. Since it was trained on text up to 2020, it does not know about current events, and biases present in the human-written documents may also be reflected.

At the end, there are also some playful examples from an internal hackathon. These include generating rap lyrics for historical figures, Jurades, a charades game guessed by AI, and JurassiChess, which links with Stockfish to evaluate moves and sometimes even offers taunting comments.
