Perplexity Releases Windows Version of 'Portable Computer' Based on NVIDIA RTX

Perplexity has launched the Windows version of Portable Computer, a local AI agent that uses NVIDIA RTX GPUs as accelerators. This tool is designed to plan and execute multi-step tasks while keeping sensitive information on the device.

Local and Cloud Hybrid Architecture

Portable Computer comes with local models such as Qwen 3.8 27B by default, making it ready to use without complex software stack setup. Tasks can be delegated to cloud models for advanced reasoning only with user approval, and tasks processed locally do not consume Perplexity credits.

Key Features and Integrations

The app connects with major productivity tools such as Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, GitHub, and Slack, operating within existing workflows. Key use cases include:

• Engineering: Reviews open Pull Requests on GitHub, organizes them by status, and suggests documentation updates.
• Finance: Analyzes tax returns and securities summaries to track items that cause unnecessary fees and tax burdens.
• Startups: Analyzes user funnel data to identify drop-off points and posts insights to Slack channels.

Hardware Requirements

Currently available on Windows PCs equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX and RTX PRO GPUs (24GB+ VRAM). Support for NVIDIA DGX Spark and Linux RTX PCs is already provided, and support for DGX Station is planned for a future release.
