AI Just Creates More Work

Companies are pushing AI as a tool for efficiency and workforce reduction, but on the ground, the work of fixing error-ridden outputs is increasing.

• In a survey of 1,150 people cited by The Guardian, 40% said they had experienced 'workslop.'
• Workslop refers to AI-generated content that looks plausible on the surface but is thin in substance.
• Handling it adds 3.4 hours per month, and for an organization of 10,000 people, this is estimated to translate to roughly $8.1 million in lost productivity.

In a case from the University of Michigan's medical field, humans had to redo errors in AI drafts of medical documents and emails, and inaccurate messages were even sent to patients in some cases.

In another survey, 40% of employees said AI does not save them time, while 92% of executives believed productivity had increased.

The core issue is simple: for tasks requiring accuracy, AI drafts increase the burden of review and correction, and the level of replacement effect CEOs expected has not yet materialized.
