Kakao Unveils Comprehensive Stability Strategy Including AI Code Review, Open Source Management, and Harmful Content Blocking

Kakao announced that it is introducing AI technologies throughout the entire development process and operating systematic management processes to improve service quality and stability. In the code writing stage, a 'Code Writing AI' with a deep understanding of Kakao's proprietary technology supports developers. When generating PRs, it performs the role of a peer reviewer by summarizing changes, analyzing security vulnerabilities, and checking for coding rule violations. Additionally, a 'Unit Test Generation AI' improves test coverage. In the testing stage, a mobile test automation system developed in 2020 is utilized, taking into account the mobile environment used by over 40 million users.

In terms of open source management, the 'OLIVE Platform', released in 2021, is used to check licenses and security vulnerabilities. In 2023, the scope was expanded to include data from all package managers, providing information on over 70 million packages. Verification data is shared through the 'OSORI' project in partnership with Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and others.

In content management, 'Safebot' is used to block spam and harmful content. Immediately after the introduction of Safebot, reports of abusive language and slang comments decreased by 43%, and the number of reports themselves dropped by 73%. Furthermore, a pre-screening method for illegal filming content was introduced for the first time in Korea. The deployment process consists of four stages: planning, note creation and approval, execution, and monitoring. Gradual deployment strategies such as canary deployment are used to minimize the risk of failures.
