Kakao Reveals ISO 22301-Based BCM Framework and Disaster Recovery Processes

Kakao defines disasters ranging from natural catastrophes such as floods and earthquakes to IT incidents, and operates a BCM (Business Continuity Management) framework certified under the ISO 22301 international standard. To prepare for data center outage scenarios, it implements distributed deployment and 24-hour monitoring based on DCIM.

In the event of a disaster, the Emergency Response Committee handles decision-making, while the BCM lead department, service recovery team, and recovery support team respond systematically. The recovery process consists of three stages: disaster declaration, BCP execution, and disaster termination declaration.

Kakao conducts company-wide disaster recovery drills at least once a year. Meanwhile, the Kakao Ansan Data Center is capable of accommodating up to 120,000 servers and storing over 6EB of data, and served as the venue for the Ulchi Defense Practice-linked civil defense training in 2024.
