Kakao Crew's GHC 2021 Recap: From Open Source Contributions to Global Networking

Kakao supports its crew members' attendance at international conferences to expand their global insights. jyami from the Talk Platform Development Team 1 attended Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) 2021 and shared their experience of the online event. GHC is an international conference for women in tech, offering surveys on discrimination issues and various networking opportunities.

At the OSD (Open Source Day), the participant contributed to the eclipse-aqavit project and experienced the process of having a real PR merged. Through mentoring, they learned about Oracle's open source contribution procedures and submitting the Code Of Conduct agreement. They also participated in poster sessions highlighting social values, such as a technology case developed by Facebook engineers to combat domestic violence during the pandemic.

Global companies such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft participated as sponsors, providing recruitment pages and opportunities to submit cover letters. The online platform enabled 1:1 meetings and networking with developers worldwide. Although the participant primarily watched recorded sessions due to time zone differences, they stated that seeing global leaders provided career motivation.
