Kakao Platform Tech Team Drives Internal Work Platform Automation and Community Expansion

Developers on Kakao's Platform Tech Team are enhancing crew productivity by automating and advancing internal business systems. They develop core systems central to daily operations at Kakao, including HR, finance, general affairs, and accounts, replacing previously manual repetitive tasks with system-based solutions.

Recently, through the development of 'Annyeong Kakao', crews can now record working hours, apply for leave, and modify leave requests with a single touch on KakaoTalk. Additionally, payroll calculation and verification processes have been fully delegated to the system, eliminating repetitive manual checks by staff. The core goal of this automation is to help crews focus on more important tasks by saving time.

Tech Stack and Development Culture

The work platform adopts a Spring Boot-based MSA (Microservices Architecture) and DDD (Domain-Driven Design) architecture. It uses Java LTS versions (8 or 11) and actively leverages Spring Batch, Data, and Security. Currently, services are being sequentially migrated to a Kubernetes environment to enhance scalability and stability.

In terms of development culture, the team operates a focus meeting system where opinions can be freely shared regardless of tenure or job title. Through these meetings, new technology adoption and process improvements are fiercely debated and decided. Enhancing technical maturity through code reviews and retrospectives is also considered a key value.

Community Expansion and Future Plans

Kakao plans to expand its internally developed systems to other companies within the group. Starting next year, community companies such as Kakao Mobility, Kakao Pay, and Kakao Brain will be able to sequentially use Kakao's work platform, with the system currently being flexibly refactored to support this. Additionally, various projects are being conducted in parallel, including the advancement of the electronic approval system, the development of a new internal portal, and the integration of the purchasing system.
