Threads Launches: Chat Directly on Top of Your Code

Replit is evolving beyond a simple code execution environment (REPL) into a shared space for collaboration. While the existing Annotations feature has been actively used in educational settings, the newly introduced Threads combines code and conversation to deliver a complete collaborative experience that helps projects succeed.

With Threads, users can do the following:

• Code-based conversations: You can select any line of code to start a thread, and the highlight persists even while using the editor.
• Real-time collaboration: Collaborators can read and reply to messages in real time, and when they return later, they can pick up any conversations they missed.
• Resolving threads: Once a discussion is complete, a thread can simply be marked Resolve.

Replit plans for Threads to eventually replace the existing repl chat feature, building a unified experience for team-based collaboration. Through this, developers will be able to develop, debug, and deploy software more efficiently in an environment where code and discussion coexist.
