AWS Weekly Recap: Claude Opus 4.7 on Amazon Bedrock, AWS Interconnect GA, and More (April 20, 2026)

Last week's uNamur commencement speech delivered a message that AI isn't replacing developers, but rather becoming a tool that demands a higher standard. This week's AWS news sits on the same trend line. AI models, network connectivity, and modernization tools all evolved in ways that boost productivity in development and operations.

The biggest news is that Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.7 is now available on Amazon Bedrock. This model shows improved performance in coding, long-running agents, and specialized knowledge work, scoring SWE-bench Pro 64.3% and SWE-bench Verified 87.6%. It also comes with Bedrock's next-generation inference engine, dynamic capacity allocation, adaptive thinking, a 1M token context window, and high-resolution image support. At launch, it's available in US East (N. Virginia), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Europe (Ireland), and Europe (Stockholm), supporting up to 10,000 requests per minute per account per region.

In the networking space, AWS Interconnect has reached general availability. AWS Interconnect – Multicloud provides a Layer 3 private connection between an AWS VPC and other clouds. It currently supports Google Cloud, with Azure and OCI to be added later in 2026. Traffic flows through the AWS global backbone and the partner cloud's private network, and it includes MACsec, multi-facility resilience, and CloudWatch monitoring. AWS has published this specification on GitHub under Apache 2.0, allowing other clouds to become Interconnect partners as well.

AWS Interconnect – Last Mile simplifies high-speed private connections from branch offices, data centers, and remote sites to AWS. Connections are set up through existing network carriers, with 4 redundant connections automatically placed across 2 physical locations, and BGP routing, MACsec, and Jumbo Frames enabled by default. Bandwidth can be adjusted from 1 Gbps to 100 Gbps in the console without reprovisioning, with the first launch region being US East (N. Virginia) and Lumen as the initial partner.

• Amazon ECR pull through cache now supports OCI referrer discovery/sync, automatically syncing image signatures, SBOMs, and attestations.
• AWS Transform is now available in Kiro and VS Code.
• Aurora DSQL now offers a PHP connector.
• Amazon Q now supports document-level access control for Google Drive.
• AWS Secrets Manager now supports hybrid post-quantum TLS.
• EC2 C8in/C8ib reached general availability, delivering up to 43% improved performance over C6in, 600 Gbps network bandwidth, 300 Gbps EBS bandwidth, and up to 384 vCPUs.
