Plugins and Skills

Plugins let Codex connect to other tools and sources of information. By referencing Google Drive files or checking email inboxes, you can directly use already-connected data and work without copying and pasting.

Skills are playbooks that let work get done the way your team or company does it. Codex can be pre-trained on processes that differ by organization even for the same task—like how to write a newsletter, customer account briefs, or the structure of a weekly report—so you get consistent results without explaining it every time.

The difference between the two is clear.

• Plugins: used when bringing in information from other tools.
• Skills: used when following your team's process.
• Both: used together when you want to make use of information from connected tools while producing output the way your team does it.

Plugins generally require more technical understanding to build than skills. You can check plugins and skills from the menu in the upper left of the Codex screen, and skills can be invoked in a thread by pressing $. For example, you run a specific skill by specifying it like $customer-update.
