South Korean Police Arrest Man Who Posted AI Photo of Escaped Wolf

While a search was underway for Neukgu, a wolf that had escaped from a zoo in Daejeon, a 40-year-old man was arrested on charges of creating and spreading an AI-generated image online.

The photo he posted appeared to show the wolf walking through a road intersection, and authorities mistook it for an actual sighting, hastily changing the search location and even sending emergency text alerts to residents.

Police identified the suspect by cross-referencing CCTV footage with records of AI program usage. During questioning, the man reportedly stated that he did it "for fun."

Authorities are investigating him on charges of obstruction of official duties by deception, which carries a possible penalty of up to 5 years in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won.
