AI Image Generator Midjourney Developing Full-Body Ultrasound Scanner

Midjourney, known for its AI image generation tool, has announced the Midjourney Scanner, a medical device capable of scanning the entire body in 60 seconds, declaring its entry into the hardware market. This is a completely different move from its existing image generation service, and the company plans to launch a brand called Midjourney Medical for this purpose.

The scanner works as follows:

• When a user stands on the platform, they are submerged at a rate of 2 inches per second.
• They pass through a ring composed of 500,000 sand-grain-sized micro squares, each of which emits ultrasonic waves and records the reflected waves.
• The result is a 3D map similar to an existing MRI, but about 100 times faster.

Midjourney has signed a licensing agreement with Butterfly Network, which holds ultrasound chip technology, and the project is being led by Ahmad Abbas, who worked on Apple's Vision Pro development.

The future plans are as follows:

• 2025: First scanner-equipped spa to open in San Francisco
• 2028: Launch of third-generation device with custom silicon and expansion to other cities
• 2031: Goal of deploying 50,000 scanners worldwide

The company's ultimate goal is to prevent 30% of deaths worldwide and reduce medical costs by 50% through early diagnosis.
