ElevenLabs brings Voice AI into the classroom

ElevenLabs has launched Impact Program x Professors to make Voice AI easier to use in educational settings. It offers Pro tier free to professors, and allows student access to be opened for a limited time for specific lectures or projects.

More than 100 educators at institutions such as Harvard, NYU, Cornell, and UCL are already using ElevenLabs for classes, assignments, and research. The company explained that read-aloud lecture materials, accessibility tools, conversational AI tutors, and voice-based learning experiences increase the interactivity and accessibility of learning.

The use cases are concrete.

• UCL's Carolyn McGettigan has used ElevenLabs since 2023 for research on interpreting vocal meaning, synthetic voices, and voice identity.
• Stanford's Daniel Rubin builds conversational AI and voice interfaces that improve accessibility of science and education content.
• Harvard Kennedy School's Sharad Goel is developing a tool that answers student questions in the professor's own voice within lecture videos.

At the same time, Albert Einstein's voice and writings have been brought into Iconic Voices and an interactive learning experience. Working with CMG Worldwide and Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a dedicated AI model was used to recreate his intonation, gravitas, and even emotion, and on ElevenReader users can listen to books and writings such as Relativity: The Special and the General Theory. The Einstein AI Agent enables real-time questions and concept exploration, and supports English, German, French, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish.
