Upstage Proposes Personal Data Protection Measures

Upstage presented policy proposals on the theme of AI development and personal information protection at the Industry Roundtable for Activating a Trust-Based Data Economy, held by the Personal Information Protection Commission at Naver's new headquarters on March 16, 2023. It was the first in a series of relay meetings to gather industry opinions ahead of the enforcement of the revised Personal Information Protection Act.

The event was attended by Ko Hak-su, Chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission, along with 16 online platform companies. Upstage was the only startup among the participating companies and the only company to give a presentation, putting forward measures for protecting personal information amid the spread of generative AI.

Han Ji-yun, Data Team Leader, pointed out the risk of exposing sensitive information during cloud-based training and the use of unstructured data in the rapidly changing generative AI environment following ChatGPT. She emphasized the need for preventive measures to increase trust in AI utilization.

• AskUp: A KakaoTalk service combining Upstage OCR with ChatGPT, which gained 100,000 channel friends within one week of launch
• Upstage stated that it will continue to explore ways to build trustworthy AI data based on its data technology, which has been recognized at global academic conferences.
