Consumer Terms of Service Update Notice

Anthropic is updating its Consumer Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to improve the performance of Claude models and strengthen safety. Users can now directly choose whether their data is used for model training.

This update applies to Claude Free, Pro, Max plan, and Claude Code users. However, enterprise services such as Claude for Work, Government, Education, and the API are not subject to this change.

The key changes depending on data usage choice are as follows:

• If data training is allowed: The data is used to improve the model's coding, analysis, and reasoning capabilities, and to increase the accuracy of harmful content detection. In this case, the data retention period is extended to 5 years.
• If data training is not allowed: The existing 30-day data retention period is maintained.

Users can change this option at any time in settings, and existing users must complete their selection by October 8, 2025. Anthropic protects personal information using automated processes that filter or anonymize sensitive data, and does not sell data to third parties.
