Banksalad's First Welcome Kit: A Behind-the-Scenes Story

Banksalad had gone a long time without a welcome kit. The project started from a small discomfort felt by two designers who joined in the first half of 2024, who carried their laptops home bare-handed on their first day and thought, "It would be nice to have a laptop bag."

The first question they worked through was, "What would a welcome kit that feels like Banksalad look like?" It couldn't just be pretty merchandise — it had to be an experience that helps new colleagues gain confidence from day one and work well for a long time, and with that message in mind, they named it the EMPOWERING STARTER KIT.

The items were chosen mainly for things frequently used and genuinely helpful in actual work. The core lineup is as follows.

• Laptop bag: The essential item that started it all, born from the experience of going home empty-handed
• Laptop stand: A foldable product designed with long hours of laptop work and remote work in mind
• Charger: Preemptively covers the inconvenience of easily forgetting one on the first day
• Memo pad: An adhesive design that sits naturally on the desk
• Sticker pack: A taste-respecting item combining the logo, slogan, and various graphics
• Toothbrush and toothpaste set: A basic daily necessity prepared for after late nights, dinners, and outside work
• Forms: The badge cover, welcome message, and onboarding guide organized into one flow
• Packaging: A thick zipper bag instead of a box, personalized with the recipient's name handwritten on it

The most important principle they upheld throughout the production process was not rushing. They kept adjusting budget, quantity, schedule, and design quality, refining the kit with the goal of making something that stays close for a long time and naturally gets reached for, rather than something used once and thrown away.

This kit was given not only to new hires but also to existing members who had never received a welcome kit before. Positive reactions followed on Slack and internal channels, and it has settled in as an onboarding experience that makes the first day more comfortable and warm.
