Kakao Entertainment FE Development Team Reveals New Hire Onboarding and Gather Town-Based Remote Collaboration Culture

A new developer from the Kakao Entertainment FE Development Team shared their 10-month experience since joining and the team's operational culture. In a remote work environment, the team utilized Gather Town to build a virtual office, adopting a method where questions difficult to resolve via Slack are addressed by directly visiting colleagues through avatars.

New hire onboarding spans a total of six months, including six weeks of common and technical onboarding after public recruitment, three to four weeks of toy projects, and two months of specialized FE training. Notably, the toy project involved creating a webtoon service, providing an opportunity to gain confidence in frontend roles and learn actual business processes.

Team Collaboration and Code Review Culture

Within the part, a Coordinator-Corporator system is operated. One Coordinator leads the work, while multiple Corporators participate in design discussions and component composition, enhancing the entire team's understanding of the project. During code reviews, the team follows the principle of merging only after full approval, encouraging constructive discussions under the recognition that code ownership belongs to the company.

Regular small talk sessions and a monthly Demo Day strengthen communication between parts. During Demo Day, each part shares its work status and technical solutions, and technologies validated internally are disseminated through external blogs and other channels. This structure serves as a foundation for new developers to quickly adapt to practical work and grow.
