Upstage Signs Contract with LG Uplus

Upstage announced that on June 28, 2022, it signed a 'Sentiment Tag Extraction and Opinion-Based Search Modeling Contract' with LG Uplus. The two companies are pursuing the development of an AI engine that analyzes and searches emotional keywords in video content reviews.

As video content has surged with the spread of OTT, the limitations of the existing manual keyword-tagging approach have grown. Keyword selection is subjective, and a separate tag dictionary must be managed for every video, driving up costs; there is also the problem that if only 'scary' is managed, expressions like 'eerie' are left out of search.

Based on its track record of papers at international conferences such as NeurlPS, AAAI, ACL, EMNLP and its Kaggle gold medal achievements, Upstage plans to build a search system using a model trained on LG Uplus data that can find ambiguous and complex search terms according to their meaning. At the same time, the plan is to discover and manage new tags using AI-based analysis tools, improving the precision of search and recommendations.

Going beyond existing genre-centered classification, search that reflects emotion will become possible, such as 'eerie thriller movie' or 'heartwarming romance movie'. This will make it easier for users to find content that matches their mood, while allowing LG Uplus to boost customer satisfaction and service competitiveness.

This collaboration is not the first. Upstage has had an advisory contract with LG Uplus since late last year, cooperating on AI service development and talent cultivation, and this was also mentioned as an example of the partnership at a press conference on the 9th.

Upstage also plans to launch AI Pack in the future. It will be positioned as a no-code/low-code service that provides three AI functions—meaning-based search, OCR, and recommendation technology—in a one-stop manner, supporting everything from data processing and modeling to continuous updates.
